HOW DO I BECOME A FOSTER HOME WITH OTTAWA DOG RESCUE?
Individuals or families who are interested in becoming foster homes can complete the application found at the link below.
Once we’ve had a chance to review the application, our Foster Coordinator will be in touch to set up an initial phone call to discuss what is involved in fostering and exactly what your expectations and requirements are. We will then do a home inspection and ask you to sign a Foster Home Agreement, which releases us from any liability.
In order to be sure that you are ready for your new foster dog, please make sure your resident pets are up to date on all vaccines, and we suggest getting the Bordatella vaccination as many dogs coming from shelters can be exposed to kennel cough.
Though we have not had occasion to need it, we also require that our foster homes carry home-owner or renters insurance, in order to protect the families and the public in case of any unfortunate incidents. Rest assured that our dogs are temperament assessed prior to coming into care, but you can never be too cautious.
And finally, if you are renting, you must get written approval from your landlord stating that you are authorized to foster dogs in your rental home.
