At 17 years young, Nia has perfected the art of slow living. Her days are simple; long naps, good meals, and quietly shadowing her foster mom from room to room. She dreams of a soft, peaceful home filled with cozy blankets… though, true to her quirky nature, she may choose a crinkly garbage bag for her naps.
Nia is deaf and partially blind, with limited mobility. What she lacks in senses she makes up for in quiet resilience and a little bit of Shih Tzu sass. She’s searching for a family with gentle hands and patient hearts to help her feel safe and loved. She adores her walks and would happily keep going until her paws freeze. Nia is looking forward to summer when she can enjoy peaceful strolls in the warm evening air. Nia is a quiet lady and mostly keeps to herself but she will enthusiastically remind you when it’s mealtime or if she’d like to get down from the couch.
Nia has a collapsed trachea, managed well with gabapentin. Because of her trachea, the vet recommended we don’t put her through a dental procedure and as a result she has some stinky senior breath. She has a few cysts that are easily kept clean with a steroid antibiotic cream when a flare up occurs. Nia struggles with separation anxiety when her foster mom is in the office, so she would do best in a home where someone is around more often than not. Nia is outdoor and pee pad trained, and is comfortable wearing diapers.
Finally, Nia has shown evidence of cognitive decline. She has periods of confusion, pacing, and getting stuck in rooms unable to remember how she got there. She has made excellent improvements on medication and we highly recommend she continue with this treatment.
Nia is a truly special soul, and we are searching for an equally special home to cherish her in her final years.
