My name is Finnegan. I am one handsome boy. I came to Ottawa Dog Rescue just before Christmas after I was hit by a car. I suffered some spinal cord damage leaving my left leg immobile, some significant road rash, which is all gone now, and my tail needed to be amputated. This has NOT kept me down!!
With time, effort and patience, I am able to walk really well now. I can even run around the backyard and play with my foster sister. My hind limb still needs help though. So whoever is lucky enough to adopt me will have to make sure I get rehab/physical therapy so my muscle mass will increase in that hind leg. Since I don’t have a tail anymore, you will have to learn my cues of when I am feeling happy, sad, scared, upset etc.
I know my basic commands of and am house trained. I don’t get mad when my foster sister comes up to my food and wants some. I enjoy the outdoors and going for walks, but my leash walking is a work in progress, as I tend to pull. When I see another dog, I bark loud and a lot, but it is only because I want to meet them and play. I bark so loud and run around a lot, so a detached home with a fence is a must.
Here are some things that I love!!!: meeting people and dogs, my head being scratched, my belly being rubbed, balls of all sizes, ripping apart plush toys, and toys, toys and MORE TOYS. The more toys the better because I love to share my toys, especially when I play tug-o-war.
I don’t know my limits, so I need my furever family to say when enough is enough, so I don’t push myself too hard because of my leg. One thing that is helping me with my stability is carpets. My foster family has laid down some non-slip carpets down on spots where I jump down from so I don’t slip!
